Welcome to my website.

People come to therapy seeking help for symptoms or problems. You may be in distress and know you want and need to change but don’t know how. Therapy opens up a time to reflect and to explore who you are right now and what you want and need. It is an opportunity to pull back the layers and ask the big questions of life and yourself. Who am I? What will make me happy? What is my purpose in life? How do I create the life that I want? Therapy provides a supported, nonjudgmental environment for you to feel heard and seen. It is a place where we work together to help you change the things you want to change.

Most of our behaviors, feelings, and thoughts are not conscious. We all get caught up in our own self-talk and patterns of beliefs. The only way to break free of our reinforcing thoughts is to talk to someone else. Yes, we could talk to friends and family. But, sometimes it may be hard to share things with those closest to us and they may unwittingly reinforce our negative thinking. That’s why talking to a licensed mental health professional can be helpful in sorting out feelings of being unhappy, blocked or stuck.

Choosing a therapist that feels right is a significant factor in the success of your therapy. The therapist/patient relationship involves trust and takes time to develop. I hope my website will answer some of your questions and give you a feel for who I am and how we might work together. In therapy I will work to help you feel listened to and to create the safety needed for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.

Psychotherapy helps in a number of ways

While all therapy modalities aim to lessen symptoms of distress, psychodynamic psychotherapies have been shown to help with both stress relief and improvement in personal functioning. Psychodynamic therapy works to improve your ability to manage interpersonal difficulties by addressing underlying issues. On a deeper level it can provide greater insight into who you are and what you want. This, in turn, can lead to greater satisfaction and a healthier, happier, more productive life.

How I can help

I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in private psychotherapy practice. In addition to my Master’s Degree in Psychology and clinical training, I am an artist and former college instructor. I bring a unique background of art, teaching, and mediation experience to my work as a psychotherapist.

My therapeutic approach is informed by the various strands of my training involving both psychology and creativity. Because your experience of relating to the world and creating meaning is unique, I tailor my approach to be flexible and guided by your needs. I integrate techniques and theories from a variety of perspectives and modalities to work collaboratively with you to try to relieve your distress and build pathways to greater fulfillment. In therapy we will work together to promote your healing and growth, and to remove the obstacles to creating the life that you want.
